At the 2025 I/O event, Google announced a suite of AI-driven features across its platforms including Gmail, Google Docs and Search. These updates aim to enhance user productivity and streamline digital interactions by integrating advanced AI capabilities into everyday tools.

Gmail Gets Smarter With Personalized Replies

Gmail now offers “Personalized Smart Replies”, which generate email responses that mirror the user’s writing style. This feature leverages Google’s Gemini AI to analyze previous emails and craft contextually appropriate replies, saving users time and maintaining consistency in communication.

Additionally, Gmail’s search function has been upgraded to prioritize the most relevant results. By considering factors such as email frequency, click history and recency, the new search algorithm ensures that users can quickly find important emails.

Google Docs Introduces AI-Powered Writing Assistance

Google Docs users can now benefit from AI-generated summaries that automatically update as the document evolves. By typing “@” followed by “summary”, users can insert a dynamic overview at the top of their documents, facilitating easier navigation and comprehension.

Furthermore, the integration of NotebookLM into Google Docs allows users to transform their documents into audio formats or podcasts. This feature enables users to consume content in a more flexible manner, catering to different preferences and accessibility needs.

Google Search Evolves With AI Mode

Google search has introduced an experimental “AI Mode”, designed to handle complex, multi-part queries. This feature utilizes the Gemini 2.0 model to provide comprehensive, AI-generated responses that incorporate text, images and voice inputs. Currently available to Google One AI Premium subscribers in the United States.
