Flutterwave, a leading African fintech company, has officially joined the Circle Payments Network (CPN), a major milestone in the company’s mission to streamline global money movement and boost financial access across the continent. This partnership allows Flutterwave to facilitate cross-boarder payments using USDC and EURC, two regulated stablecoins issued by Circle, making international transactions faster, more affordable and transparent.
Enhancing Global Payment Efficiency
The CPN connects financial institutions, including banks, payment service providers and digital wallets, enabling real-time payments that settle in seconds, rather than days. According to World Bank, cross-border payments can take more than a day to settle and incur fees exceeding 6%. By leveraging stablecoins, Circle offers programmable, fiat-redeemable digital dollars and euros that solve these pain points with blockchain technology.
Flutterwave’s Strategic Moves
For Flutterwave, this move is strategic. The company has become a backbone for payment processing in Africa, supporting international transactions for platforms like Uber, Netflix, and Booking.com. With this partnership, Flutterwave can now expand its global offering by tapping into Circle’s infrastructure, which supports regulated stablecoin transactions across compliant digital wallets, banks and payment providers.
Flutterwave’s CEO Olugbenga Agboola, described the partnership as “a game-changer for African businesses and remittance senders around the world.” He emphasized that this collaboration would help bridge the gap between African markets and global financial systems by providing access to reliable and affordable cross-border payment rails.
A Step Towards Financial Inclusion
This integration of Flutterwave into CPN signifies a broader mission to build a robust and inclusive digital financial ecosystem. Small businesses, freelancers and exporters across Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana and other markets can now receive international payments more efficiently and predictably.
Joining CPN further strengthens Flutterwave’s role as a gateway for Africa’s digital economy and marks a significant step toward building a borderless financial system where compliance and innovation co-exist.
