Nigeria’s Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, has held discussions with Brazilian officials to strengthen collaboration on artificial intelligence (AI) and GovTech partnership innovation. The meeting, which took place with representatives from ApexBrasil and the Brazilian Support Service for Micro and Small Enterprises, is part of Nigeria’s plans for a technology exchange mission to Brazil in 2025.
Key figures in attendance included ApexBrasil President Jorge Viana and Brazil’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Carlos Gacete. Tijani emphasized the transformative potential of AI in sustainable development and highlighted Nigeria’s drive to adopt GovTech solutions to improve public services.
“Beyond digital trade, we discussed the importance of bilateral cooperation. As leaders in the Global South, we have a great opportunity to harness AI for development. Brazil’s expertise in GovTech will be invaluable as we advance digital innovation in our public sector,” Tijani shared in a LinkedIn post.
The meeting also acknowledged the contributions of IHS Towers, a Nigerian-founded telecom infrastructure company with a significant presence in Brazil.
Additionally, Tijani highlighted the robust trade relations between Nigeria and Brazil, noting that bilateral trade reached $2.9 billion in 2022, driven primarily by petroleum and commodity exchanges.
With both nations positioning themselves as digital leaders in the Global South, this collaboration marks a strategic step toward leveraging technology for economic and governmental transformation. The upcoming Technology Exchange Mission is expected to further strengthen AI adoption and GovTech collaboration between Nigeria and Brazil.
