Platos Health, a Nigerian healthcare startup, has secured $1.4 million in pre-seed funding to roll out its preventive health device across Nigeria. The funding round, backed by google through its Black Founders Fund, aims to enhance chronic disease management and preventive care in the country.
Addressing Chronic Disease Management
Nigeria faces significant challenges in managing chronic diseases like diabetes and hypertension, often due to late diagnoses and limited access to continous care. Platos Health’s innovative device offers real-time monitoring and personalized care plans, enabling early detection and proactive management of chronic conditions.
In a recent pilot study conducted in collaboration with Reliance Health, Platos Health’s platform demonstrated promising results. Participants experienced an average 12% reduction in fasting blood sugar levels over 12 weeks, and insulin usage decreased by approximately 15%. These improvements translated to estimated savings of over ₦88,000 for both the insurance provider and its enrollees during the study period.
Strategic Partnerships and Expansion Plans
The $1.4 million funding will support Platos Health in scaling its operations, enhancing its technology and expanding its reach across Nigeria. The company plans to collaborate with healthcare providers, insurance companies and government agencies to integrate its device into existing healthcare systems.
Dr. Itopa Jimoh, Senior Medical Advisor at Platos Health, emphasized the company’s mission: “Our goal is to make effective chronic disease management accessible to everyone. This funding brings us closer to achieving that vision.”
The Role of Technology in Healthcare Transformation
Nigeria’s healthcare sector is witnessing a surge in technological innovations aimed at improving access and quality of care. With support from initiatives like Google’s Black Founders Fund, startups like Platos Health are at the forefront of this transformation, leveraging technology to address pressing health cahllenges.
As Platos Health prepares to deploy its preventive health device nationwide, the company remains committed to empowering individuals with the tools and information needed to take control of their health. This initiative marks a significant step towards a more proactive and technology-driven healthcare system in Nigeria.
