DigiTax Gains Approval To Expand Into Nigeria Market

DigiTax now hods technical approval to launch its tax-tech platform in Nigeria. The Kenyan startup earned clearance after meeting regulatory and technical criteria, positioning itself to rollout electronic invoicing across Africa’s largest economy.

Why Nigeria Marks A Critical Market Entry

Nigeria stands next on DigiTax’s expansion path. Officials confirmed that the company holds licences in Kenya and Zambia and has lined up Nigeria plus four additional African markets for entry during 2025. The startup built core capabilities in Kenya, which still accounts for roughly 90% of its revenue before pursuing new markets.

How DigiTax Integrates With Nigerian Requirements

DigiTax customises its e-invoicing software to align with each country’s tax authority APIs. In Kenya, it connects with the KRA eTIMS platform; in Zambia, it integrates with ZRA systems. For Nigeria, technical approval means DigiTax meets standards for seamless linkage with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS). The platform supports Android apps, web dashboards and a flexible API that works without installing hardware.

Founder-led Strategy And Capabilities

Co-founders Caine Wanjau and Thukuwa Thuku launched DigiTax in 2022. They designed the platform to serve both large corporates and micro businesses. The company supports integration in over 20 programming languages and offers white-label APIs for ease of client adoption. DigiTax monetises through annual subscriptions, integration fees and transaction-based pricing to accomodate diverse business models.

Expansion Driven By Regulatory Momentum

African governments are rapidly mandating digital invoicing to boost tax compliance and reduce revenue leakages. Nigeria joins that trend. DigiTax’s roadmap reflects careful selection of markets with mature e-invoicing infrastructure, large taxpayer bases or demand driven by existing multinational clients. Nigeria checks all those boxes.

What Nigeria’s Businesses Can Expect

Once fully operational, DigiTax will allow Nigerian businesses to issue tax‑compliant invoices digitally via phone, laptop, or web without any special hardware. It provides integration tools for developers and third‑party systems, supporting digital‑native operations across the business spectrum. Small businesses gain simplified compliance, while large corporations enjoy scalable, multi‑market capability.

Strategic Backing Supports Growth

DigiTax secured funding from angel investors and institutional backers, including Equitable Ventures and Higa VC. Beyond capital, the investors offer strategic support around pricing, market entry, and client partnerships. The team remains lean at about 25 staff covering product, tax, engineering, support, and sales.

Broader Impact of Nigerian Entry

Launching in Nigeria allows DigiTax to affirm its position as a pan‑African tax‑tech provider. It offers a trusted link between Nigerian businesses and FIRS, enabling compliant digital invoicing across borders. As Nigeria moves to strengthen its tax infrastructure, DigiTax stands ready to support transparency, compliance, and economic growth.

DigiTax turned ambition into action. With technical approval in Nigeria, it now takes a significant step toward scaling its e‑invoicing platform across Africa. The company enters Nigeria at a crucial moment when digital tax compliance shifts from optional to essential for businesses. DijonTax’s disciplined, founder‑driven model, paired with strong investor support and technical readiness, positions it strongly to support Nigeria’s digital tax transformation.
