This page is for the owners of the Gionee A1 who are currently bugged by an issue or two. We’ve compiled some common Gionee A1 problems and their solutions. If you don’t find the difficulty you’re facing here, please leave a comment and our experts will respond to you.
Problem: Low Internal Memory
The most annoying of all the messages that one would like to see. This means that you have to let go of the old photos, apps and junk files that you have stocked up on your beloved Gionee A1 device. But before you hit the delete button to make way for more, have you tried backing up these files to the cloud?
Cloud services these days like Dropbox, Google Photos for Photos and Google drive for the documents are a convenient way to save on your device’s internal memory.
And if your Android smartphone allows for adaptable storage as the Gionee A1 does, you can combine the external storage with the internal storage, thus increasing the overall storage manifolds.
One can also opt for apps like SD Maid which helps to clean up the junk. And trust me, you will be amazed by the amount of space that it clears.
Problem: Battery Issues
Undoubtedly, the battery is the spine of a smartphone. The Android experience tends to sour a lot if one has to plug in to charge the phone every now. But all is not lost, with a little care, a smartphone battery can be made to live a longer life.
Every phone battery comes with a fixed amount of cycles. These cycles tend to wear off the more you charge your phone. So, it’s highly recommended that keeping the charge between 80% and 8% increases the battery life almost 200%.
And before we proceed any further, let me emphasize again that killing off app doesn’t really do any good. Instead, you can opt to lower the brightness of the screen, go for doze mode if the phone isn’t in use or reduce the background data refresh of apps. And if you can really afford it, you can switch off the location sharing for apps.
Problem: Phone is running slow
A few years down the line, an Android phone is a much slower version of itself. But other than its age, there are many contributions on our part that slows down a phone. One of many such reasons is the number of apps and the types of apps.
Unless your phone comes with the latest processor like the SD 821 or 835 and high storage capacity, an unusually high volume of apps is the main reason for a slow phone. And as mentioned in the first point, heavy apps like Facebook and Google Chrome can also slow down your precious phone.
There are a couple more fixes which you can explore on your own. Our post on the same topic should get your Android back to its feet again.
Problem: App not downloading on Gionee A1
Apps not downloading from the Play Store can surely play a spoilsport in the hours of need. Often the culprit is a set of corrupt cache. All you have to do is head over to the app settings and clear the cache data.
Another sure-shot alternative is to erase the Google Play store history. Go to settings and tap on clear local history.
And if the above doesn’t work, you can delete the default Google account associated with the phone and add it again to solve the problem.
Problem: Delayed notifications
Delayed notifications can prove to be a spoiler, especially when you are on the go. For instance, you can miss out on an important mail from your boss. One of the main reasons for delayed or no notification is the Power Saver option that many smartphone ROMs comes built with.
There’s little doubt that they do a fantastic job of extending the battery life, but have you wondered at what costs? These ‘features’ often cuts the data connectivity when the phone is in sleep mode thus cutting the apps from their only mode of communication.
So if you have the power saver feature switched on, you can try switching it off and see the difference. Another major issue that we folks tend to so a lot is killing the background apps. This habit not only forces the app to stop mid-way but also proves to be disastrous for your phone in the long run.
Problem: Wi-Fi shutting down
Data connectivity to a smartphone is crucial to its functioning whether it’s cellular data you are connected to or the Wi-Fi data. And one of the common issues while connected to Wi-Fi is that the data switch back to cellular network as soon as the phone goes to sleep. Exasperating, right?
Worry not, this too can be fixed in a jiffy? The above issue occurs due to the Wi-Fi sleep policy of Android on your Gionee A1. Head over to the Advanced Wi-Fi settings and set the Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep to Never. This way the switch-over never happens.
Problem: Autocorrect issues
If you ask me, I have been plagued by this issue ever so frequently. A habitual typo-master, often misspelt words enter the dictionary of the keyboard. Thankfully, there’s an easy way out of this. It only requires a bit of pro-activeness on your part.
So the next time you see a miss-spelt word on the suggestion tray of your keyboard, just long-press on it and tap on remove. This works on most of the popular keyboard apps like Gboard, SwiftKey, Ginger, etc.
Another problem with third-party keyboards is that these often seems to freeze or just refuses to show up when you need them the most. Solution? Opt for a lighter keyboard like the Gboard with fewer fancy features.
Problem: Apps malfunctioning
Many times, we come across some apps that just get aborted multiple times or a few which just goes on displaying ads that don’t allow you do anything else.
A safe way out of this situation is to boot the phone in safe mode. Once a phone is booted into the safe mode you’ll notice that all the third-party apps are disabled. So all you have to do is tap on the uninstall button.
Problem: Gionee A1 Only Charges When Off
There are a few different reasons why this can happen, some more common than others, and one of the only ways to figure out what’s the deal is to go down the list of problems and see which one fits your phone best.
Examine these three different factors: the cables used, the power source, and your battery.
There’s something wrong with one, two, or all three of these if you can’t charge correctly, so let’s look at how to identify the problem.
Step 1: Different Cables
It’s possible your cable is the problem, so here’s what you can try to see if it is:
- Try the cable with a different phone.
- Use the cable with a new device.
- Use the cable with a new power source.
- Try a different cable.
- If you get a different result with another Android or a different cable, the cable you’re using now is definitely the problem.
Step 2: Use a Different Power Source
Sometimes where you’re plugging your Android into is the problem, so if it only charges when it’s off with one power source try a different one. I usually charge my Android through my laptop, but I could try charging it with a wall charger, or even one of my consoles.
Try as many different sources as you can to see if one works!
Step 3: Remove / Refresh Your Battery
If you have a removable battery, I recommend you swap it out for a different one if you have one available. If you can’t remove it, without voiding a warranty, use a battery checker app to see if you have anything not working as it should.
Step 4: When All Else Fails
If nothing else has solved the problem at this point, you only have two options left. It’s not likely, but still possible that a factory reset could fix the problem. On the other hand, if you still have an active warranty, see if your issue is covered under it, or if your manufacturer has any more information available.
Having to charge your Android only when it’s off is an annoying problem, but is thankfully one with a few fixes.
Problem: Not showing incoming calls
Fix 1
Step 1: Go to Dialer or Phone app settings. To do so, you can either go to main settings, then open ‘Apps’, and then scroll down to Dialer or Phone App.
Step 2: Now select the “App notifications” option.
Step 3: Now if App notifications are turned off, your display won’t wake up when someone calls you. Also if only the “Incoming calls” permission is off, your screen will not light up with incoming calls.
Step 4: Now tap on incoming calls and change the priority to urgent (Make sound and pop on screen)
Make sure required permissions are turned on and your issue will be fixed.
The options may differ based on particular custom UI on your phone. But all you need to do is go to the App info page of the ‘Phone’ app and grant it necessary notification permissions. You probably denied the permission when first prompted and perhaps that’s the reason for why you are facing the issue.
Fix 2: (For Android Pie-based Phones)
If you have an Android 9.0 Pie-based software on your phone, you can follow these steps
Step 1: Go to App Info of Phone Dialer app and tap on Notifications.
Step 2: Tap on the ‘Incoming Calls’ option and then on behaviour.
Step 3: Now tap on ‘Behaviour’
Ensure that the notification priority is set to urgent or “Make sound and pop up”.
